Cold Specks - Winter Solstice

It's women who rock week and up second is another up-and-coming Canadian talent, Al Spx, aka Cold Specks. I recently discovered her after watching the Polaris Music Prize episode of The Wedge. She has an absolutely stunning voice, rooted in deep south soul and gospel. Also a great songwriter and piano player. I strongly recommend you check out her debut album, I Predict A Graceful Explosion.

The song "Winter Solstice" was the video I saw on The Wedge. It's one of those slow builders that starts with just her gorgeous voice and pretty piano chords but then explodes with horns and excellent production as though she's leading a gospel soul march somewhere down the Mississippi. I can't wait to hear more from this young talent.
